Veggie Dogs, Vegan Rice And Bean Burritos, And Starbucks Snacks

March 22, 2010 by Keri

This weekend, we took another all-too-short trip to visit my family.  When we got in Friday night, we were getting hungry so we stopped and picked up some Lightlife Smart Dogs and buns.  I’ve actually never had a veggie dog before, so I was a little apprehensive, but with a little mustard and horseradish it was actually pretty tasty.  I forgot to take a picture, but you probably all know what a veggie dog looks like, so that’s alright.

On Saturday there was a get together for my dad’s birthday (today is his actual birthday, so happy birthday Dad!) and we picked up veggie subs from Subway so that we would have something vegan-friendly to eat.  I never really know if it’s “rude” to bring your own food to a gathering, but I think you’re allowed to be a little rude with family, right?  And we’re much more lovable when we’re fed!

After the party, we went back to my mom’s and I made vegan rice and bean burritos for everyone (Me?! Burritos?! Shocking, I know.)  I pressure cooked black beans, steamed a mix of brown and jasmine rice, and mixed up some vegan tvp taco mix.  We filled giant wheat tortillas with the beans, rice, tvp, lettuce, tomatoes, jalapenos, and salsa.  I’m not very good at folding up burritos this large and making them stay together!  I guess I don’t have a future in professional burrito sales.

A tofu scramble got our Sunday morning started, followed by giant burrito leftovers.  When it was time to head out, we stopped by Starbucks to check out their new vegan-friendly treats.  We got Peeled Snacks apples and mangos for the little guy and me, and the vegan cookies for the mini man and his daddy to test out.

Vegan Snacks

I’ve actually had Peeled Snacks before; I got some in my Christmas stocking and they’re so tasty!  The boys said the cookies were really crunchy and tasty.  We don’t go to Starbucks all that much, but it’s nice to have vegan snack options when we do!  I had one of their raw blueberry granola bars not too long again and that was really good also, but if I remember correctly, quite pricey.  I hope you all had a great weekend too!
