Vegan Snack Time: Ants On A Log

March 26, 2010 by Keri

I know I’m a nerd, but I when I made this vegan snack I got a little nostalgic.  Did any of you ever eat “ants on a log” as a kid?  I actually had a Care Bears cookbook with the “recipe” for these, along with other simply things to make.  I think there was a recipe in there for candy that was pretty much just butter and maple syrup.  Man, I wish I still had that cookbook!  Everything was all sunshine this and rainbows that.  Anyway, when I pulled out the celery and peanut butter to make a snack, I saw a box of raisins in the pantry and smiled.  I haven’t stuck ants on my logs since I was a kid!  It’s funny how something as simple as that can bring back such fun memories and brighten my day.  Not to mention it’s a nice, healthy snack for lots of delicious peanut buttery energy!  Have you recently rediscovered any old favorite foods or snacks?  I’d love to know what you nibbled on as a kid!

Yum! I LOVE ants on a log, and eat several stalks of it almost every day! Seriously, it’s like the best of all worlds, sweet, crunchy, salty, what’s not to love? I like it with almond butter too, certainly something I never had as a kid! 🙂

Yeah, where was almond butter when I was a kid?! I didn’t even know it existed!! Which is probably good because it would have been another thing in my lunchbox for the other kids to think was weird. 😛

My Vegman loves these with Carob Chips instead of raisins 🙂

Ooh, I bet that would be really good. Vegman has good taste! 🙂
