Vegan Snack Time: Almonds And Raisins
Almonds and raisins combined has to be one of my favorite vegan snacks. Growing up, my grandma, who has always had a speedy metabolism, swore by this tasty snack for when she started to feel shaky before lunch or dinner. She’s also been known to sprinkle them over her Sunday morning cereal for some added energy, and a little baggie of almonds and raisins was usually waiting for me in the car when she picked me up from school or some sort of team practice.
My personal favorite are raw, whole natural almonds with no added oil, flavor, or salt. And this snack is not only tasty, it’s actually really healthy too. Almonds are an excellent source of protein, fiber, calcium, Vitamin E, riboflavin and niacin, while raisins provide the healthy antioxidant benefits associated with dried fruits. Also, the raisins provide enough “sweet” to fulfill my sweet craving and the almonds have the protein to satisfy hunger. I love to keep a container of raisins and almonds in my handbag or tote in case I get hungry between meals, or even to eat as my breakfast if I had to rush out in a hurry without eating.
