Vegan Pizza For All

January 11, 2010 by Keri

If there is one thing that most anybody can appreciate, it’s a great pizza.  I don’t exactly live in a location where I can pick up the phone and order a fabulous vegan pizza (or anything vegan for that matter), so my quest has been to make the perfect vegan pizza.  It’s not that I’ve had any miserable failures, but I just wasn’t getting that “OMG YES” reaction that I was hoping for.  But FINALLY, I nailed it with the perfect crust, sauce, toppings, and “cheese” combination.  Just like Mama used to order.

For the crust, I used this recipe, Pizza Crust, from VegWeb, rubbed it with a touch of olive oil and then topped it off with a jar of organic pizza sauce from Whole Foods.  Next I tossed on halved organic grape tomatoes, fresh chopped organic spinach, and black olives.  Mushrooms would have been a nice touch as well.  Finally, I covered my pizza masterpiece with shredded mozzarella “Teese” from Chicago Soy Dairy.  I actually shredded up and used an entire tube of the stuff, but you could definitely use less; I just love the flavor.

Did the “teese” actually melt? I really need a “cheese” that melts right!!!!

Yeah, the Teese melted up really nicely with just a bit of extra oiliness. Did you try the Daiya shreds I told you about? Also awesome!
