The Vegan Elvis Smoothie

February 21, 2010 by Keri

Well, minus the bread and deep frying.  I’m not sure how to deep fry a smoothie, but I don’t think I’ll be trying that anytime soon.  Anyway, I finally got a blender!  I’d really been holding out for a Vitamix, but I finally had to admit that a $500 blender wasn’t in my immediate future.  Instead, I settled on a nice, affordable KitchenAid blender with three speeds and a smoothie button.  I didn’t have high hopes for my new blender because I was so prepared to be let now by it’s not a Vitamix-ness, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by how quickly and smoothly it made a perfect smoothie.  Sure, it doesn’t make hot soup or instant ice cream, but for now I will settle for a darn good smoothie!  Today’s smoothie is just a simple concoction combining my childhood favorites, peanut butter and banana.  It makes enough for two vegan smoothies, but could easily be halved for a single serving.

This recipe is fantastic! Thanks for sharing! If only I had a nicer blender! Don’t get me wrong, I will be trying this out, but it will take me about 20 minutes to mix!

Thank you- I love peanut butter and banana! That’s what I was worried about too when I spent so little on the blender (my mom’s or grandma’s would have taken at least all day!), but luckily I got a quick one!

  3. Thanks for the inspiration, I tried a variation of this beauty this morning. So good!

I’m with you on dreams of owning a Vitamix.. someday!!

Yum, I made one this morning with a little coconut butter in it as well. This blender did well on something soft like banana, but it’s not much good at tougher things like greens. I think I have the no-Vitamix blues!

My parents have a Vitamix and it is amazing! They have had it for at least 10 years and it still works. I guess that’s why they are so expensive 🙂
