Raw Vegan Walnut Meat Tacos And Chili Dogs
At first I just titled this post raw taco meat, but then I realized that sounded really disturbing. When I throw the “walnut” in there, most of you know what I’m talking about. I’ve seen “walnut taco meat” on a few blogs, but had never tried it. I have to say, since joining the vegan blogging community, I’ve learned about a lot of neat uses for nuts; I would have never known about creamy nut desserts, dips, and sauces or probably would have skipped them in cookbooks if it weren’t for your blogs!

The walnut taco meat turned out to be delicious! And it was so quick; this meal took me about 5 minutes to prepare. The best part was, the only thing to clean up from prep was the food processor or Vita-Mix. I used this recipe from Gone Raw, corn tortillas, cooked navy beans, spinach, and salsa. The texture and flavor were great, and they were very filling. Of course, if you wanted to keep them raw, you would want to use lettuce leaves rather than corn tortillas and nix the cooked beans.

For dinner, I held on to summer one last time with these veggie dogs from the bottom of my freezer. I made chili dogs, which would have been better as chili cheese dogs, but I was out of vegan cheese. I don’t know; they just didn’t do anything for me this time. Maybe summer really is over! I actually ended up passing off the “dog” and eating chili in a bun. Now, that was yummy!

I know I tend to unrawify them with my additions, but what are some of your favorite raw nut recipes?

I made vegan truffles a few weeks ago for a party with cashew creme and they were a huge hit!
Oh yum!
Oooh so many!!! But raw nut butter pie has to be my favorite
Mmm.. that sounds delicious!
I haven’t made this exact recipe, but I LOVE the walnut taco meat from Ani Phyo’s book. Your tacos look so yummy!
My other favorite nut-based raw recipe is raw brownie bites using walnuts & dates!
I need to get an Ani Phyo book; I don’t have one yet!
And brownie bites sound awesome!
I have my own recipe for Raw Vegan Taco Nut Meat on my blog..I love it! Not just my recipe
but the whole raw vegan taco meat thing. Nut meats that are supposed to taste like chicken or tuna salad are far to bland and boring for me, i love a nice spicy taco “meat”!
I’ll have to check yours out!
I have been wondering about the taste. I should try it soon! Thanks for the inspiration!
Very yummy and so quick!
Enjoy!
This pregnant girl totally wants a chili cheese dog now!
Awww… someone get this girl a vegan chili cheese dog!
Thanks for that. I moved away from mexico when I was really young, and I really want to rediscover my heritage. I’ve been trying out a lot of random mexican recipes, and the best I’ve found yet is this taco recipes – it totally remind me of my childhood. I dont remember much of it except for the lovely smells and delicious food on every street corner.
