Movies And Vegan Popcorn

March 17, 2010 by Keri

Yesterday, I read a post about vegan popcorn drizzled with coconut butter on Everything Homemade, and even though she wasn’t a huge fan, popcorn thoughts drifted back into my head around movie time.  I know that homemade popcorn is best, but I only had organic microwave popcorn on hand (I’m going to have to remember to pick up some popcorn kernels next time I’m at the store).  So I made do and popped the bag.  While still hot, I dumped the bag into a big bowl and drizzled melted coconut butter and a touch of agave nectar over it, followed by sprinklings of cinnamon and sea salt.

Wow, what a rich and delicious treat!  I know it’s not exactly a low calorie snack, but that’s okay with me because it was worth every bite.  The movie, however, was a major disappointment.  I’ve been using Netflix for awhile now, but lately I’ve been having problems with the movies I receive.  If I wasn’t a fan of the movie anyway, I had been just saying, “Forget it,” and sending the movie back, but I recently realized I shouldn’t do that because then the messed up movie will go on to frustrate someone else.  Anyway, last night we were watching Memoirs of a Geisha and exactly halfway through, when I’m really into the movie, it starts skipping and then doing that awful scrambled picture thing.  I was so bummed!  I even tried it in three different DVD players and a computer, but no luck.  So I reported it damaged and sent it back for a new one, still a little peeved at being stuck halfway through a movie for at least two days.   Since it’s just a movie I got over it pretty quickly.  I don’t have the attention span to be upset about anything (or mad at anyone) for very long. Speaking (typing?) of movies though, what are your favorites?  I’d love to add them to my list if I haven’t already watched them!

Maybe it was the sweet flavor I was missing? I’ll have to try your combo with the agave and cinnamon next time.

It’s not a movie, but I’ve been watching the first season of Mad Men on DVD. I love that show! It’s crazy how different everything was back then compared to now!

The sweetness definitely helps. I’m not sure what Mad Men is- I’m going to have to check that out! 🙂
