A Vegan With A Bread Machine: Jalapeño Bread

I think this one is my new favorite vegan bread! It’s spicy, but not so much so that it’s unenjoyable, and so soft and light.  I made this as a compliment to a pinto bean and veggie stew, but I will definitely be making it up again often for a side to everything from soups to pastas, and for sandwiches and snacks.  You could add another jalapeño for more intense flavor, but I don’t recommend overdoing it or you’ll lose the flavor of the bread to the heat.  For less intense flavor, remove the seeds from the pepper prior to chopping.  Yum!

Vegan Bread Recipes


  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter
  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar
  • 2 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 whole large jalapeño, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons dry yeast

Add ingredients to bread machine in above order.  Set bread machine to Basic, 1.5 lb. loaf, normal.  Enjoy!

    It’s so good; my other favorite is the rosemary bread and it makes the kitchen smell amazing! I know- the bread machine will get pushed away somewhere and then when I break it back out and it’s addicting!
